Fragkokastelo
Fragkokastelo is located in the area of Sfakia, at the southwestern coast of Crete, 13km east from Chora Sfakion and west from Plakias. It is a small seaside settlement with few houses but enough rooms and apartments for rent to accommodate its visitors.
Fragkokastelo is famous for its well-preserved Venetian fortress, its beautiful beaches and drosoulites. Drosoulites are said to be goasts that appear on the walls of the fortress at dawn in May. The area used to be rich in important monuments that were destroyed over years in wars and revolutions. Much of their building material was used in the fortress.
