Samaria gorge
Samaria gorge is one of the major attractions of Crete. All visitors of the island have already heard or will hear about this magnificent gorge. Locals call it “faraga”, which is an augmentative form of the Greek word for gorge. That is to express its beauty and its difference compared to the other gorges of Crete.
Samaria gorge is located in western Crete, in Lefka Ori. It is 18km long and is the longest gorge in Europe.
The common route starts from Omalos plateau, at Xyloskalo (1227m altitude) and ends in Agia Roumeli, a seaside village of the southern coast.
